Boats in Solva harbour, September 1998
The picturesque village of Solva nestles in a flooded glacial valley that has for many centuries been a harbour to the community. The name Solva is thought to have come from the Norwegians. In the 1770s the first Smalls lighthouse was constructed and shipped out from here. In June 1995 Her Majesty the Queen came by sea on the Royal yacht Britannia and landed at Solva quay from the royal barge on her way to St Davids.
